De Bezaan in Gistel is a small-scale residential project with 10 apartments. Eight people with an intellectual disability and/or autism and two residents live there, each in their own apartment. There is a communal garden and bicycle storage.
For the De Bezaan residential project on Lijnzaadstraat in Gistel, Vzw Ithaka is looking for a volunteer resident who would like to live here (single person, couple, or small family). The resident serves as a point of contact for the residents' minor practical questions. The resident also enjoys participating in the monthly group activity.
Personal space
The resident's apartment is located on the top floor and is accessible via stairs and elevator. It consists of a living room with an open kitchen, storage room, bathroom with shower and sink, separate toilet, 2 bedrooms, and a large sunny terrace. The apartment is very bright and energy-efficient.

Eight people with an intellectual disability and/or autism and two residents live in De Bezaan. The residents live very independently and structure their own days. They do supported work, attend the day center, run their own businesses, or participate in leisure activities. Each resident receives tailored support: some more, others less. Most residents are in their thirties.
These things we like to do togther
The Bezaners form a close-knit group, respecting each other's privacy. They enjoy having fun. They complement one another and help each other whenever possible. Spontaneous chats often break out in the hallway or in the self-made lounge in the garden.
There is a monthly group activity that is chosen and organized in consultation with the residents. The program often includes dinners, board games, swimming, cinema, bowling, visits to the fair or Christmas market, and so on. There is a quarterly residents' meeting where we discuss practical matters and activities.

The apartment is rented at a price lower than the market price because we do expect the resident to be involved with the residents and to be a point of contact for them.
